Brain Clutter. Do you have it?
I bet you do. I know I do. I think we all have brain clutter once in a while but I tend to have a lot of it and often. You know the way you have so many thoughts, plans, to-do’s, goals and more floating and spinning around up in that gray matter that you end up doing very little with them? That’s brain clutter.
I liken this to an attic in an old house. Lots of stuff up there just piled in corners and on top of each other. After a while we forget what is even up there. Things get dusty and lost amid the other things or put in boxes and trunks to be forgotten. Someday perhaps we will stumble across something great once again but that would be just by random chance. Would we recognize it and know what to do with it even if we did?
My brain can be like this. If I have no purpose to organize my thoughts or ideas around they just keep getting jumbled up and forgotten. So what to do about all this ‘stuff’ up in my brain? Figure out what is good to keep, what is not and clean house (so to speak!)
For me, I have a problem with getting rid of ‘stuff’. I don’t want to sound to snooty but I really think I have a lot of great ideas. I just have trouble picking one and getting it done. First, I am the worst person to make a decision. I blame it on being a Libra (scales, balance and all that right?) I have a hard time deciding what to focus on. I get distracted easily by another great idea, phone call, dog walk, pretty leaves falling…you get the picture.
What to do? I’ve decided that my first step needs to be to figure out what my long-term goal is. Easier said then done I know. But the motivation is that once I can get that down I can use that long-term idea to decide about things today. I can figure out what to do today that fits and will move me towards that long-term goal.
This may require a lot more coffee.
