I recently shared with you my intentions for 2011. These are what I want to happen in 2011..I intend to MAKE them happen in fact.
Of course in order for that to happen I need a plan. Oh I suppose I could just sit tight, cross my fingers and hope with all my might. However, I’ve yet to have that really work out well, so I’m going to go ahead and work out an actual plan to get where I want to go.
Now I know myself pretty well. I know that I get off track and distracted easily (ohh.. shiny…) So my plan needs to include some sort of check-in with myself to keep me on track. It’s been a long learning curve but I know that if I don’t have that, I tend to forget after a while what road I’m supposed to be on and end up on an off-ramp to a place I never intended. No matter how lovely I end up feeling out-of-place and frustrated until I realize what’s happened. I usually do find my way back to the correct path but why waste all that time right?
So let’s look at one of my intentions and I’ll show you what I mean.
My intention about trying two brand-new things every month is a perfect example of this. I haven’t limited myself to what these two things have to be except that each one must bring with it a new experience. This can be food, travel, exercise, lessons…whatever. So, in order to ensure I do this every month I’ve put reminders for myself in two places. One is in my
phone. It has the ability to schedule recurring reminders! Every two weeks I have a reminder pop up asking myself where I am for this intention. I also have an agenda I use like my own personal lifeline. In every new month I have put a post-it. On it I am asking myself what I did last month that was exciting and new and I then write it in my achievement journal. That is when I get to reward myself!
So, I’ve created reminders and a way to celebrate my success. The intention itself is going to be a great reward I’m sure, but a bit of chocolate never hurt either!
What do you do to check-in with yourself to ensure you are going to meet your goals?
Please share!

Great Post Bonnie!
Another way to make sure you stay on track with your goals is to 1) Make sure they are written down, not just on your blog but written down using the old fashion pen and paper!
Next, make sure that you have a copy of your goals, as well as you Goal Action Plan (GAP) with you at all times, whether it is in your car, at work, at the restaurant…at all times. This way, when ever you have a few moments of down time (waiting for your table at the restaurant, stopped at a red light, at the doctors office, waiting for a meeting to start at work, etc) you can take a few moments to review your goals and reflect how far along you are in the journey to reaching them.
Reviewing your goals (or intentions) is one of the most important part of achieving your goals.
To you success,
Erik
